Simple carbohydrates make good fuel

Just your friendly neighborhood safety warning that sugars are exceedingly flammable.

I love toasters but they are a bit of a one-trick pony. Luckily, the contents can be anything from English muffins and bagels to pizza and stroopwafels.

“What’s that?!”, I can hear you say. Pizza and wafflethings? I learned a while ago that if you turn a toaster on it’s side it becomes a miniature salamander with built-in under-heating and that seemed like just the thing. Pizza can get a little sloppy but if you watch the cheese, it’s no big deal. Slap a caramel filled cookie in there however… and things get super interesting because a stroopwafel heats very, very quickly. Once hot, that caramel begins to ooze. Once oozed, it drips on the element and the sugar and cream catch fire and melt your toaster, filling the kitchen with an acrid smoke stink that takes days to dissipate.

I am chagrined.
